WordPress Tutorial > Blog Posts

Adding New Posts

1. Log into the WordPress dashboard

2. Go to ‘Posts’ down the left hand side

3. Click ‘Add New’

4. Enter your blog title and insert your content

*You can format the text within WordPress itself, however we recommend that you write and format your content in Word first, then cut and paste it into this area. WordPress will adopt all of the formatting for headings, lists, links etc from Word.

5. To add an image to your post, scroll to the bottom of the page and click ‘Set Featured Image’.

You will then be presented with a dialog box of the Media Library, which contains all of the images that have previously uploaded to the site. Simply click an image and then click ‘Set Featured Image’ to add it to your post.

Alternatively, you can click ‘Upload Files’ in the top left hand corner to select and upload a new image.

You can also do this by opening the folder on your machine which contains the image you wish to upload, and dragging and dropping it into this area. Once you release your mouse, the file will upload.

6. To categorise your blog, underneath the ‘Categories’ section down the right hand side, tick the box of the applicable category. You can also add a new category by clicking on the button highlighted below.

7. Once you have inserted all of your content and your image, you can click on ‘Preview’ to check it before hitting ‘Publish’ to add it to your site.

Editing Existing Posts

1. Log into the WordPress dashboard

2. Go to ‘Posts’ down the left hand side

3. Click ‘All Posts’

4. You will then be presented with a list of all posts on the site. This list can be filtered by category and also keyword search.

5. Once you have found the post you wish to edit, you can click on the title to access that post to make changes.

6. Once you have made all of the updates, click ‘Preview’ to check your changes before hitting ‘Update’ to publish the changes to the site.

Deleting Posts

1. Log into the WordPress dashboard

2. Go to ‘Posts’ down the left hand side

3. Click ‘All Posts’

4. You will then be presented with a list of all posts on the site. This list can be filtered by category and also keyword search.

5. Once you have found the post you wish to edit, you can hover over the title of the post and click ‘Bin’.

6. As with most devices, this doesn’t delete the post permanently. You can therefore click on the ‘Bin’ tab to access this post again. From here, you can either restore the post of delete it permanently.
