Everyone wants to improve their website ranking, and with Google’s ever-changing algorithm, it’s difficult to know where to start. However, following these 3 steps and applying the techniques consistently over time, will result in progress in terms of both domain score and overall searchability.

1. Keywords

Firstly, you need to establish which keywords you’re wanting your website to rank for. You may already have a list in mind, however you can also use this free SEO analysis tool, Uber Suggest, to find out which keywords your competitors are getting the most success with.

Once you have a defined list of 5-6 keywords, it’s a case of inserting them into your website content. The best way to do this is pick a focus keyword for each page, then add it to the page title, description and body content.

Once your pages are keyworded up, you have all of the onsite foundations in place.

2. Backlinks

Another big thing that Google takes into account is backlinks, which is a link from an external website to your website.

It used to be the case that the more backlinks the better, however nowadays, it’s more about the quality and in fact, Google can penalise you for having too many bad backlinks.

If you are trying to build links, focus on sites with a high domain score, as these carry more weight with Google. You can use the same free tool above, Uber Suggest, to establish the domain score of any website you’re looking to get a link from.

3. Traffic

The final piece of the puzzle is to drive traffic to your site, as improved keyword optimisation and credible backlinks combined with an influx of traffic, will result in a higher domain score for your website.

There are many ways you can do this, including pay-per-click ads and social media advertising, however the best free ways would be direct mail marketing, and social media.

Have a go at writing a blog on your website, then share it via email and on social media. Do that weekly and you’ll eventually see an improvement in your organic traffic and subsequently, your domain score and searchability.

Summary

These techniques won’t work instantly, and improving your website ranking will require patience and dedication. However, if implemented correctly, after 6-12 months, you will start to see the fruits of your labour.
